The aim was to produce an accompanying exhibition catalogue for Science Gallery’s GROW YOUR OWN… exhibition. The publication features different viewpoints on the sometimes frightening and overwhelming field of synthetic biology. The GROW YOUR OWN… exhibition gives the visitors the opportunity to help shape future discussions around synthetic biology — an emerging approach to genetic engineering which brings together engineers, scientists, designers, artists, and biohackers to design ‘living machines’. The visual language created for this exhibition had to be flexible enough to suit the extensive range of living and non-living exhibits, while at the same time featuring bold and fascinating photography of ambiguous characters that hover on the brink between design and evolution.
